The holidays are fast approaching. Before you know it, Thanksgiving is already here, which only gives us a few more weeks before Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Around this time of the year, many people — both men and women — are anxious. Why? Because they don’t have any significant others to celebrate the season with. In short, they don’t look forward to celebrating the holidays because they’re single.
But being single during the holidays isn’t exactly a bad thing. In fact, some single men welcome the idea.
The Bright Side of Being a Single Man during the Holidays
In today’s world, being single is something most people dread. The thought of spending cold nights with no one to cuddle with in bed, go on dates with, argue with, and hang out with leaves them with an overwhelming sense of loneliness.
While all of those things are true and certainly valid, being single during the holidays has its advantages, too, especially for men. Here are just a few of them:
-
You have more time to spend with your loved ones
You’re single. This means you have more time for yourself and your loved ones. You can use all of your newfound free time to spend more quality moments and build meaningful memories with your family and friends.
-
You get to save more
This one’s a no-brainer. All the money you spent going on dates, buying gifts, and planning vacations for two can all go to your savings.
-
You are spared from the emotional chaos
Men aren’t as emotional as women. Men aren’t wired that way. While some of them handle emotional stress well, most men are ill-equipped for it. The holiday season is already stressful as it is, especially with the pandemic. Adding emotions to the mix will result in chaos. This isn’t healthy, especially for those struggling with substance abuse or undergoing alcohol rehab. So being single and emotionally unattached might actually be a good thing.
-
You don’t need to please and impress someone else’s family and relatives
The thing about spending the holidays with a significant other is the “meeting the family” part. And trust us, some of those scenarios from the movie Meet the Parents do happen. Spending the holidays as a single man spares you from the unnecessary misery and burden of impressing someone’s family.
-
You can plan your schedule the way you want to
Go on a solo holiday adventure. Take a road trip with other singles. Hang out with the boys anytime. You can do pretty much whatever you want whenever you want.
-
You get more invitations to go to parties
For most people, the holiday season is the season to party. You’ll find that, as a single person, you get frequent invites to the wildest parties. Strike while the iron is hot
-
You won’t go crazy thinking of the perfect gift to give
One of the things most men dislike about the holidays is holiday shopping. Shopping is already a big struggle for them but dealing with hordes of people in stores or running out of stocks online adds to their troubles. Unless they’re naturally gifted with the ability to pick the right gifts for people, looking for the perfect gift for their lovers is torture.
-
You get to meet other single ladies
Think of being single as a solution to a problem. The problem: you were with the wrong person. So, in effect, the breakup did both of you a favor. This leaves you with opportunities to mix and mingle with other single women, which could lead you to the right one.
-
You can binge-watch whatever holiday flick you want to
Chick flicks aren’t bad. Truthfully, a lot of them are good. But let’s face it, instead of watching cheesy holiday movies and rom-coms, you’d rather watch the ultimate Christmas movie: Die Hard.
-
You have more time to know yourself better
Lastly, being single gives you the perfect time for self-discovery. Perhaps while you were in the relationship, you lost a part of yourself when you made your significant other the center of your world. Now would be a good time to look for what was lost and get back on track to where you’re destined to be.
While having someone to spend the holidays with is great, spending it as a single man isn’t as bad as some say. Keep in mind that singlehood is only a season. You’ll bounce back at the right time. And even if you don’t, singlehood isn’t a disease to be dreaded. You don’t need anyone else to complete you, for you’re already whole. So keep your chin up and enjoy this season, bud!
